The Office of Digital Learning at UW Tacoma strives constantly to find creative ways to support our learners.  With our commitment to more meaningful use of technologies, we are transforming the anytime/everywhere learning experience. We at the Office of Digital Learning strive to support new pedagogy in a digital community of practice. Our mission in the Office of Digital Learning is to:

  • Support faculty in the use of new pedagogies that engage and support diverse learners
  • Assist faculty in initial course design and digital pedagogy exploration and utilization
  • Promote and support ongoing course improvement and faculty development across modalities
  • Keep student success and student-centered approaches to hybrid and online pedagogy our top priority
  • Research, develop and promote emerging tools for teaching and learning,
  • Inspire innovative use of social, collaborative and communication technologies,

As Director of Digital Learning at UW Tacoma, Darcy is a leader and advocate for teaching excellence in higher education. She has developed a wealth of experience and a deep-rooted passion for advancing effective pedagogical practices in her 26 years at UWT. Her commitment to fostering a culture of reflective teaching, inclusive learning environments, and her extensive knowledge of instructional design, assessment strategies, and educational research guide the support she provides to faculty members, empowering them to excel in their teaching endeavors, improving student outcomes, and an enriching academic experience for all learners. A firm believer in the power of collaboration and knowledge sharing, she actively engages with faculty across disciplines and tri-campus colleagues to facilitate the exchange of best practices and pedagogical research to contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the university’s teaching ecosystem. Darcy completed her doctoral degree in Instructional Systems Technology from Indiana University in 2019. She leads the UW Tacoma’s hybrid and online teaching certification program, serves as Executive Director of the Faculty Resources Center, and holds an Affiliate Faculty position within the UW Tacoma School of Education. She is currently co-chairing the Instructional Quality working group as part of the Provost’s Future of Teaching and Learning at UW initiative.

Before relocating to the summery climes of the Pacific Northwest, Chris was the Associate Director of Teaching and Learning at the University of Alaska Fairbanks eCampus, where he engineered and guided the design and build out of online and hybrid programs as well as the organization’s extensive menu of faculty development and innovation efforts. Chris has 25 years of experience at the intersection of education and technology, including more than two decades teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses, most recently for the UAF Graduate School of Education.
